Study Information

WHAT IS THIS PROJECT ABOUT?
This study examines social relationships, forgiveness and well-being. We are particularly interested in how social relationships may contribute to experiences of forgiveness and well-being.

WHY IS THIS STUDY IMPORTANT?

This study will provide important information about how people’s family and friends in the Detroit area both help and hinder social relationships in daily life.

WHAT KINDS OF QUESTIONS WILL BE ASKED?

Questions will cover a wide range of topics– including social relationships with friends and family, forgiveness, life satisfaction, and health. There are no right or wrong answers to any of these questions. We would like to hear about your experiences and to learn about the different experiences and opinions of each participant. Each person’s answers are equally interesting and important to us.

WHO IS ASKED TO PARTICIPATE?

People living in the Detroit Tri-County (Wayne, Macomb, and Oakland) area who are age 18 and older are being invited to participate in this study.
Your contribution to this project is very important and valuable. The only way for this project to succeed is to speak with people like you!
If you are determined to be eligible and complete the 45 minute interview, we will send you a $20 thank you.

DOES THE SELECTED PERSON HAVE A CHOICE ABOUT PARTICIPATING?

Yes – participation is completely voluntary. Participants may refuse to answer any, or all, questions. And participants may change their decision to take part/not take part at any time during the interview process.

HOW WILL THE INTERVIEWS BE CONDUCTED?

Our phone interviewer will call, and you may choose to be interviewed then or to set up an appointment for an interview at another time—ultimately we want the interview process to be convenient for you.
All interviewers are members of the staff of the University of Michigan Survey Research Center (SRC). The SRC is one of the largest and most respected academic survey research organizations in the world. It maintains a staff of well over 300 trained interviewers.

HOW WILL THE INFORMATION BE USED?

The information will inform strategies for improving health and well-being.
All answers are treated as strictly confidential. The data will be kept in secure files with your name and other identifying information removed. The identity or contact information of participants will never be released.
A general report based on the results of statistical analyses and not including any identifying information will be sent to all interested participants
